シンガポールのファンク／ロック・バンド、Funkgusによる1976年作。Sly & The Family Stone「Stand!」「Thank You」、Eric Burdon & War「Spill The Wine」、The Jackson 5「Get It Together」と、選曲だけでもバンドの志向が伝わる一枚。そこに自作の「You Got Me」「Assasination」を挟み、両面を「Stand」で括る構成もいい。ソウルとロックが地続きだった時代のレパートリーを、東南アジアのバンドがどう料理したか。前作『Man With A Gun』と併せて追いたい、Baal周辺の気になる一枚です。
Singapore funk-rock band Funkgus returned in 1976 with a repertoire that makes its influences clear: Sly & The Family Stone’s “Stand!” and “Thank You,” Eric Burdon & War’s “Spill the Wine” and the Jackson 5’s “Get It Together.” Originals “You Got Me” and “Assasination” sit among the covers, while two versions of “Stand” bookend the album. An intriguing meeting of Southeast Asian rock and American soul, worth exploring alongside their earlier Man With a Gun.
