From the Beatles and Aretha to Barry White’s orchestral soul, Mona Richardson’s Disco Dazzler brings a broad repertoire into a disco-era setting. Produced, arranged and conducted by Chris Babida, this 1979 Hong Kong EMI release includes “Eleanor Rigby,” “A Whiter Shade of Pale,” Love Unlimited Orchestra’s “Love’s Theme,” “Respect” and “Dancing in the Street.” Richardson’s powerful, earthy, gospel-rooted voice is the central attraction across ten tracks spanning rock, soul and pop standards. Recommended for female soul collectors and anyone drawn to unexpected cover versions.
