Released in 1988 on Malaysia’s ASP label, Cinta Menanti is a Malay pop album produced by Johari Salleh. Across ten songs, romantic longing meets the sadness of separation, from lovers living in different cities in “Selatan dan Utara” to the affection for a mother expressed in “Oh Ibuku.” Its title, meaning “Love Awaits,” brings together a bittersweet, sentimental world of love, distance and hope. The sharply dressed sleeve portrait adds its own glimpse of late-eighties Malaysia.
